Brisbane Accommodation Guide For Leisure & Business

It’s more likely than not that an attempt to cook up a Brisbane accommodation guide will turn into a nice fat book. Brisbane is Australia’s 3rd biggest city and the capital of Queensland. As such, there are any number of options for the millions who visit Brisbane every year, from 5-star hotels to Backpackers, motels and Bed & Breakfasts. There are also some more options, like farm-stays, apartment rentals and caravans.
For those in search of a cheap place to stay, the best option would be a Backpacker. The Roma Street Transit Centre has a lot of good ones close by in the area. But the better ones can be found in the South Bank and West End. The Backpackers and hostels in Fortitude Valley have a lot going too, as explained below.
The Backpackers in the West End are mostly better than the rest. They offer all the comforts of a good hotel suite, but without the price tag. This includes use of the kitchen, a swimming pool, game room with a bar, and wifi internet. They will even arrange transport for guests to the Transit Centre.
For more upscale lodging, try the luxury hotels in Southern Brisbane. There are many big hotels near the Brisbane Convention Center, QPAC and Kangaroo Point. Airport hotels are also quite good, and they have the added advantage of a convenient location for business travelers.
Of course, the 5-star hotels and the sprawling resorts are at one end of the available options. The cheap backpackers and YHA are at the other end. In between, there’s a lot of space filled by motels and B&B’s and all kinds of lodging choices.
A little more out of the mainstream will take visitors to vacation homes and apartment rentals. Even more exotic, for those willing to venture a little further out of the City, would be farmstays and luxury cottages out in the open. The Greater Brisbane region includes lodging with magnificent views in the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
Coming back to Fortitude Valley, it offers one of the most sought after locales for tourists and visitors who want to have a good time without spending too much. The accommodations are cheap and the nightlife and the pubs are good. As an added advantage, it is just a couple of stops away by train from Roma St, and also offers a direct train to the airport.
Lastly, there are caravans and campgrounds for those who want to experience the outdoors and the best of Queensland. Renting a caravan can be especially cheap and convenient. It not only takes care of accommodation, but also transport to all the attractions. To be noted that caravans, apartments, cabins and cottages are all more economical than a hotel room. This is especially true for extended stays and if the rent is shared by a group.
In summary, a Brisbane accommodation guide, not unlike the city itself, is a vast melting-pot with many choices. It all depends on the nature of the visit, and the budget. There are areas more suitable for business travelers and others better for pleasure seekers. From expensive 5-star hotels and sprawling resorts to bunk bed dorms, there’s something for everyone.

How To Find Good Hunter Valley Accommodation
March 14, 2011 by Sharon Cleg

The fact that Hunter Valley accommodation is so precious is mostly on account of getaway loving Sydneysiders. This is Australia’s wine country, a bare two hour drive out of Australia’s most populated city. Travellers arrive here all the time looking for romantic weekends and day trips, not to mention vineyard and winery tours.
This part of New South Wales is spectacularly beautiful and lush green, with over 80 wineries. The cuisine at restaurants here is just as intoxicating as everything on the wine list. But one problem with having so much choice spread over an area that covers 12,000 sq km is that visitors find it hard to decide where to go and what kind of accommodations to choose for the stay.
Putting together a good travel plan requires at least some knowledge of the region’s main towns and lodging options. Listed below are these choices, which should offer visitors a fair idea of what to look for and where to look for it. Cessnock is the main gateway into the region, with Pokolbin (between Cessnock & Branxton) at the centre of the wine country getting the most attention from tourists.
There are also many more choices, including Wollombi Valley, Lovedate, Kurri Kurri and Barrington Tops. The most popular Hunter Valley accommodation choices for these and other towns are the hotels & resorts. Secondary choices include apartment rentals, backpackers, B&B’s, guesthouses, and caravan parks & camping.
The town which gets the maximum attention from tourists is Pokolbin, resulting in a wide range of tourism facilities and choices for travellers. The best choice and range of restaurants & cafes is to be found here. The lodging choices too are extensive, with a particular focus on hotels and resorts in the town and in surrounding vineyards, and many fine country guest houses a few minutes outside town.
For those who need cheap lodging, there are backpacker hostels in Cessnock and the Rothbury & Pokolbin regions. These are not the kind of backpackers found in cities and are much more impressive, with kitchens and free breakfasts, plus facilities like swimming pools, saunas and bbq’s. For those who prefer a motor inn or a motel, there are many dotted throughout the district.
Moving a bit upscale means opting for one of the fine country guest houses or cosy B&Bs. These high-grade establishments offer guests absolute privacy, with spacious quarters, fancy dining rooms and libraries packed with books. They’re spread around most every town in the Hunter region, but again, tourists seem to prefer the ones around Rothbury/Pokolbin along with a few that are in Lovedale and Wollombi Valley.
For those who prefer to get up close and personal with the lush green beauty of the region, there are many caravan parks and campsites. One of these caravan parks can be found in Dungog, alongside the Williams River. There’s also a Big4 holiday park on Mount View Road in Cessnock.
Readers will no doubt be able to fathom by now why it’s hard to pick out a specific town/lodging choice as the best one in terms of Hunter Valley accommodation. Which one a visitor opts for will depend on the budget and things like duration of stay and the size of the group, not to mention what kind of activities the visitor is interested in. Broadly speaking though, visitors who stick to the choices listed above should find their stay here entirely comfortable and the trip memorable.
John Bryce-Thornton arrived in the region with a zeal for simply writing pertaining to wine and also fine food. He immediately decided he’d identified his place in life and set about building his personal Hunter Valley accommodation that he these days carries on for many individuals to the vicinity.

Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria, Australia has a population of over four million, and is an important national centre of arts, commerce, sport, tourism and entertainment. This article examines some cultural and sporting attractions in this city, as well as identifying a convenient Melbourne Airport accommodation option.
The city of Melbourne is centred at the estuary of the Yarra River where it flows into Port Philip Bay. Port Philip Bay (or just “The Bay” for local people) covers a large area (about 1900 square kilometres), and its shoreline stretches for about 260 kilometres. Melbourne, and its suburbs, extend mostly along the eastern and the northern sides of the bay, and inland up the Yarra valley and its tributaries.
Port Philip Bay is quite shallow and sheltered. Beaches on the bay are mostly found in Melbourne’s south eastern districts, including the St. Kilda, Port Melbourne and Albert Bay suburbs. The closest surfing beaches are outside the bay area, and are about eighty kilometres away from the centre of Melbourne.
Port Philip Bay was first explored by John Murray on the Lady Nelson in 1802, closely followed by Matthew Flinders on the Investigator. The first settlement by Europeans was at Sorrento, but it was soon abandoned (1804), and it was thirty more years before permanent settlements were founded. The settlement at Bearbrass, at the mouth of the Yarra river, was founded in 1835 by settlers from Tasmania, which was then known as Van Diemen’s Land. In 1837 Bearbrass was renamed Melbourne in honour of the British politician Lord Melbourne.
Melbourne grew in importance, being recognized as a city in 1845, and becoming the capital of Victoria in 1851. The major growth followed the discovery of gold in the state in the 1850s. The overall population of Australia tripled, and growth in Victoria was even more rapid. Gold passed into Melbourne from the mines at a rate of two tons per week, and Australia was for a time the world’s largest producer.
Today the city is an important sporting and cultural centre. In the field of culture there are a number of major annual events held in Melbourne, including international film and comedy festivals. Melbourne is the birthplace of Australian film and TV, and in fact the first ever feature length film was made in Melbourne in 1906. The film about outlaw Ned Kelly cost just 1125 pounds to make!
Melbourne is also a notable location for international sport, and has hosted both Olympic and Commonwealth Games. Major sports of local interest are cricket and Australian Rules Football. There are also three major annual international events held in Melbourne. The Australian Open in tennis is the first of the four Grand Slams held every year. It is held at Melbourne Park in January. The Melbourne Cup (horse racing) is held in November (Flemington Racecourse), and the Australian Grand Prix (Formula One motor racing) is now held in Melbourne (was previously in Adelaide).
Melbourne’s international airport is located at Tullamarine, and is a hub for international flights with Qantas and Virgin Blue. There are also many domestic services to other Australian state capitals. One very convenient possibility for Melbourne Airport accommodation is the Hilton hotel. The Hilton at Melbourne Airport is connected to the terminals by a covered walkway, and is only twenty minutes away from the city centre.

For those willing to look beyond the usual hotel room, there is an amazing range of cheap Melbourne accommodation choices. Just as Melbourne is a multi-hued bustling city, so are the accommodation options. As a whole, Melbourne still lives up to its original billing as a good place for a village.
Budget friendly lodging options include a large number of motels, backpacker hostels and Bed & Breakfast establishments. There are also some decent and cheap boutique hotels. While the majority of visitors will end up in a hotel, visitors should know that the other choices in Melbourne are amazingly cheap and most of the time offer a lot more facilities and space than a hotel.
The aforementioned facilities are all mostly used by visitors. Some options meant for residents, such as apartments, caravan parks and vacation homes, might be even better. These choices would come in handy for an extended stay or for people traveling in groups of 6-10 people. It saves astronomical amounts, because there’s no need for separate rooms.
Also to be considered is the question of which part of Melbourne offers the best accommodations. That is subjective, since business travelers might find the central business district convenient. On the other hand, party animals looking for a nightlife hotspot will end up in Toorak or South Yarra.
St. Kilda is a good match for backpackers who need cheap Melbourne accommodation with the beach and pubs in close vicinity. Prahran and North Melbourne are two more suburbs that host plenty of visitors looking for cheap places to stay. Within the city, visitors will find a whole lot of cheap lodging along Elizabeth, Russell and King Streets.
It’s not just the motels and hostels that are cheap. There are a large number of budget and boutique hotels in Melbourne which straddle the line in-between the backpacker rooms and the more upscale hotels. For single travelers and students, the cheap options also include dorms and couch surfing.
For families, there are many family friendly hotels. These hotels have ongoing specials that help defray the costs. Free breakfast might be available, or the hotel might have cheap family suites that have kitchenettes. Some even run supervised playpens for children, so that parents can enjoy Melbourne for a few hours on their own.
When booking online, don’t forget to spend some time looking at all the options before making a decision. Like any other big city, there are good places and bad. Read hotel and accommodation reviews, if available. To be on the safer side, book only those properties which carry the accreditation symbol, which is recognizable as a green circle with a yellow tick at the center of star.
In summary, Melbourne always has been and will remain the same warm and hospitable place for visitors that John Batman said it would be when he found it. There is no reason why visitors should exorbitantly on hotels. Instead, find cheap Melbourne accommodation and blow the rest on exploring more of Melbourne and Victoria.
