Welcome. The heaviest and largest trucks on our roads are known as “big” trucks. It’s common knowledge that trucks are those massive vehicles used to take goods from one part of the country to another.
You probably wont know that the word truck is derived from the Greek word “Trochos” meaning “wheel”.
Unfortunately because of their size and weight trucks cause a lot of damage to our roads. They ware down the roads a lot quicker than cars do. Because of this most countries with good strong roads allow trucks to carry up to 50 thousand kgs of weight.
Because of their size bug trucks emit a lot of smog and pollution. Any vehicle that weighs over 8 and a half thousand pounds is considered heavy duty.
Big trucks are legally allowed by the government to emit as much pollution as 12 cars but the truth is that most big trucks emit a lot more than that. Some as much as 200 times more pollution than a car.
If you live in the city or the suburb then you probably already know that these are the places where trucks are the most dangerous. Because they are so large and the traffic is so close they are dangerous to people in cars.
A worrying statistic shows that when it comes to accidents between a car and a big truck over 90%+ the people in the car die. This is why a lot of people are scared to share the roads with trucks.
Another thing that frightens people is that trucks have the tendency because of their size to pull a car under it’s wheels or push the car away because of air turbulence.
However it’s nice to know that even though these huge beasts can be so dangerous the drivers are often trained to a very high standard and according to some statistics show that commercial truck drivers are some of the safest drivers on the roads.
